We're incredibly proud to bring the magic back to the city where Harry Potter's story began. There's no better place to create a destination that celebrates the magic, creativity and storytelling that has captivated generations of fans around the world."

The Harry Potter retailtainment experience
While the size of the new Harry Potter Shop in the UK is record breaking, the concept is not new. It leans into the growing popularity of immersive retail experiences that focus on an entertainment-based experience rather than a transaction, AKA retailtainment.
Retailtainment is defined as the creation of a place where the most loyal brand fans can experience a brand through sights, sounds and emotion – and while the Oxford Road store will sell exclusive merchandise, it's not about sales. The official press release from Warner Bros. Discovery used the term "visitors" not "shoppers", to describe those it anticipates will frequent the space.
Brands such as LEGO and Hamleys have built a reputation for retailtainment, while the growing proliferation of virtual reality (VR) is helping other brands enhance physical retail experiences with immersive retail.
While retailtainment can be designed, it needs a loyal following to work. For brands such as Harry Potter, retailtainment is more inevitable than strategic. Since the first book was published in 1997, the Harry Potter series has become a multi-billion dollar entertainment franchise with a fan club so dedicated and sizeable that it has on occasion become problematic.
For example, on 1 September 2023 Kings Cross station in London was mobbed by crowds of fans trying to visit Platform 9 3/4 at 11am, when according to the books, the Hogwarts express departs for the new school term. The event has been held virtually since 2024.
What to expect from the Harry Potter Shop in London
While the full details of what fans can expect from the store are yet to be released, Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed several highlights, including "unforgettable photo opportunities" throughout the space, which will help build the hype on social media. Other features are set to include:
- Diagon Alley: From the moment guests step inside, they'll find themselves surrounded by the bustling sights, sounds and spirit of the franchise's most famous shopping street. Hidden magical details and authentic design touches make every turn feel like a new discovery.
- The Ukrainian Ironbelly Dragon: Towering over the Gringotts area, the Ukrainian Ironbelly Dragon creates one of the flagship's defining visual centerpieces, watching over visitors just as it did above the Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
- The Leaky Cauldron: Pull up a chair and take a break from your magical adventures at this all-new food and beverage experience, created exclusively for the Oxford Street flagship. Fans can enjoy Butterbeer™, Frozen Butterbeer, Hot Butterbeer, Butterbeer Ice Cream and an irresistible assortment of Butterbeer-inspired treats.

- Oxford Street Exclusives: The Oxford Street flagship will offer an exclusive collection available nowhere else, including the exclusive Diagon Alley Wand, an Oxford Street exclusive Harry Potter Funko Pop!, exclusive MinaLima artwork inspired by the Knight Bus and Diagon Alley, and an exclusive Butterbeer label collection.
