Chief Impact Officer Varo Bank

Current Job Function: Philippa is Chief Impact Officer at Varo Bank and is responsible for measuring and championing Varo’s impact on customers, communities and the health of our planet.

Previous Job Function: Girling served for three years as Chief Risk Officer, Varo Bank where she established a risk framework that supported the award of the first national bank charter for a challenger bank in the US. She has over 25 years of experience in the global financial services industry and is a recognized risk management leader in the industry. She was named one of the decade’s “Top Fifty Faces of Operational Risk.”

Previous Employment: Prior to joining Varo Bank, she was Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer at Investors Bank. Prior to Investors Bank, Girling was Senior Vice President and Chief Business Risk Officer at Capital One Commercial Bank and previously held Global Head of Operational Risk roles at Morgan Stanley and Nomura.

In addition to authoring two operational risk textbooks, she is also an active public speaker on risk management and digital banking topics.

Girling holds New York Bar and Financial Risk Manager qualifications and was recognized in 2014 by Working Mother magazine as one of the top 100 Working Mothers in America.

Education: Girling earned an undergraduate law degree from the University of East Anglia, UK, and a PhD in global affairs from Rutgers University. Board Memberships: RMA Board of Directors (current), Montclair Film Festival (past), New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (past), Women’s Bond Club (past)
